Apple Watch 12 is expected in September — leaks point to a more efficient S12 chip, improved battery life, and upgraded health sensors. A full breakdown of what is known as of early June 2026.
Release Date and Price
Based on leaks and the established Apple release cycle, Watch 12 is expected to be announced around September 9 and go on sale September 19. Price not yet announced, but most analysts expect a starting price around $399 — in line with Series 11.
Design: Familiar Form Factor
Supply chain sources indicate Watch 12 will keep the same thin, rounded rectangular design from Series 11. Case sizes are expected to stay at 42mm and 46mm, in aluminium and titanium finishes. New colour options are likely; existing bands should remain compatible.
New S12 Chip and Battery
Digitimes supply chain reports point to a new S12 chip built on a 3nm process — a meaningful efficiency jump after Series 11 shipped with an older processor. Battery life is expected to handle a full day plus overnight sleep tracking with room to spare. This is a real improvement over Apple Watch 11 for daily users.
Display: LTPO, Up to 2,000 Nits
The Always-on Retina display returns with LTPO technology and a dynamically adjusting refresh rate. Leaked specs cite peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits for clear visibility in direct sunlight, with a minimum of 1 nit to avoid disturbing sleep.
Health Sensors: Better Accuracy, Not New Metrics
Digitimes supply chain data suggests Series 12 will get more sensor components than its predecessor. The goal, per these reports, is improved accuracy for existing measurements — heart rate, blood oxygen, ECG — rather than entirely new metrics. Blood pressure monitoring has been discussed, but Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has not confirmed it for this model. Blood glucose monitoring is not expected this year.
Touch ID: Dropped
Software code leaked last year hinted that Touch ID was coming to the side button. In May 2026, however, reliable leaker Instant Digital reported that Apple abandoned the feature due to high energy consumption and component costs.
watchOS 27 and AI Features
Watch 12 launches with watchOS 27, expected to be unveiled at WWDC on June 8. Key features include Workout Buddy powered by Apple Intelligence, satellite messaging via Apple Maps and Photos, and — for the first time on a standard Apple Watch — Emergency SOS via satellite, previously exclusive to Ultra models.
Should You Buy It?
If you are using an older Apple Watch and want more reliable health tracking and better battery life, Series 12 looks like a worthwhile upgrade. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 is the main Android-friendly alternative at a similar price point.
