Two 2025–2026 flagships at similar price points — this is what sets them apart.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 and Apple iPhone 17 are the flagship offerings from the two largest smartphone makers for 2025–2026. Both pack a 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED display and cost around €635–750 in the Baltic market. But beyond those shared headlines, they go in different directions.

Design & Build

The Galaxy S26 is impressively light — just 167g and 7.2mm thin, making it one of the slimmest flagships available. The iPhone 17 is 177g and 8mm thick. Both use glass-and-aluminum construction with IP68 water resistance, but the iPhone 17 is rated to 6m depth versus the S26 at 1.5m. A meaningful gap if water exposure is a real concern.

Display

Both phones share a 6.3" LTPO AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh and Always-On display. The iPhone 17 edges ahead on pixel density (460 ppi vs 411 ppi) and peak brightness (3000 nits vs 2600 nits). The difference is minor day-to-day, but the iPhone screen looks fractionally sharper.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy S26 runs a triple-camera system — 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP 3x optical telephoto. The telephoto is a clear practical advantage for shooting distant subjects.

Apple iPhone 17 uses a dual-camera setup: two 48MP lenses (main and ultrawide), no telephoto. What Apple lacks in zoom reach it makes up in consistency — night photography, video stabilization, and color accuracy in video recording remain class-leading.

Performance & Battery

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (S26) dominates multi-core benchmarks, while the Apple A19 (iPhone 17) leads in single-core — translating to faster app launches and a snappier feel. In real-world use both are entirely smooth.

Battery capacity favors the S26 at 4300mAh versus 3692mAh, yet real-world endurance is similar — both comfortably last a full day. On charging, the iPhone 17 wins at 40W wired (50% in 20 minutes) while the S26 is at 25W. The S26 supports Qi2 wireless at 15W; the iPhone 17 has MagSafe at 25W.

Price & Value

The Samsung Galaxy S26 256GB starts around €635, and the Apple iPhone 17 256GB from ~€749. The ~€100 gap is real and worth factoring in.

Verdict

Pick the Galaxy S26 if you want a telephoto lens, a lighter and thinner body, the Android platform, and a lower price. Pick the iPhone 17 if you prioritize video quality, faster wired charging, better water resistance depth, and the Apple ecosystem. Both are excellent — the winner is whichever fits your life.
