Apple iPhone Ultra: The First Foldable iPhone — Is It Worth the Wait?
Leaks say that in September Apple will unveil not just a new Pro generation, but an entirely new tier — the foldable iPhone Ultra. Here is what we know.
After years of speculation, Apple looks set to enter the foldable market in autumn 2026. The new model — which leakers call the iPhone Ultra (and sometimes the "iPhone Fold") — would sit above the iPhone 18 Pro Max as an entirely new top tier. One caveat first: nothing here is official. Every detail comes from analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and supply-chain leaks.
Design and displays
The iPhone Ultra is expected to open like a book. The inner OLED panel should measure around 7.8 inches with 120Hz ProMotion, while the outer cover screen sits near 5.5 inches. The headline trick is a near-invisible crease, reportedly achieved with variable-thickness glass and stress-reducing adhesive. The body would be remarkably thin — about 4.5mm unfolded — held together by a titanium and LiquidMetal hinge. To save space, Apple is rumoured to drop Face ID and bring back Touch ID in the power button.
Under the hood
Leaks point to a new A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process, 12GB of RAM, Apple's own C2 modem, and Wi-Fi 7. A 5,000–5,800mAh battery would be the largest ever fitted to an iPhone.
Cameras
This is where compromises appear. Reports describe two 48MP rear cameras (wide and ultrawide) plus two front cameras. Several leakers say there is no telephoto lens — there simply was not room. For pure photography, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may stay ahead.
Who is it for?
The iPhone Ultra is not a mainstream buy. It targets people who want the newest form factor and a tablet-sized screen for work and media. Its direct rival is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, now several generations into the foldable game. If thin and light matters more than folding, the iPhone Air is the simpler pick.
Price and release
The price is not yet announced. Leaks suggest around 1,999 USD for 256GB, roughly 2,199 USD for 512GB, and about 2,399 USD for 1TB. In the Baltics, expect well over 2,200 € once VAT is added. Launch is expected in September alongside the Pro line, though early stock is rumoured to be limited.
If the leaks hold, the iPhone Ultra could be Apple's boldest hardware move since the original iPhone. Whether a foldable future justifies nearly double the Pro price is something only hands-on time will answer.
