Fujifilm X-T50 vs Sony α6700: Which Camera Should You Buy?
Two of the most popular APS-C cameras at almost the same price — but built for different photographers.
Fujifilm X-T50 and Sony α6700 are two of the most popular APS-C mirrorless cameras in the Baltics right now, and they cost almost the same — both start at roughly 1 300 € for the body. But they are built for very different photographers. Here is how they compare.
Design and handling The X-T50 is the smaller, lighter of the two at 438 g, with a retro body and Fujifilm's signature Film Simulation dial on the top plate — turn it and the camera applies one of 20 built-in colour profiles straight out of camera. Its rear screen only tilts up and down, which suits stills more than video. The α6700 is chunkier but has a fully articulated flip-out screen, a deeper grip and — crucially — the dust and moisture sealing the Fujifilm lacks. If you shoot outdoors in bad weather, that alone may decide it.
Sensor and image quality On paper the Fujifilm wins resolution: its 40.2 MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor captures far more detail than the α6700's 26 MP back-illuminated sensor. For landscapes, prints and heavy cropping the X-T50 pulls ahead, and Fujifilm's film simulations give JPEGs a look many photographers love without any editing. The Sony's lower resolution is not a weakness, though — larger pixels mean cleaner high-ISO files, which matters in low light.
Autofocus and speed This is Sony's home turf. The α6700 has a dedicated AI processing chip driving 759 phase-detection points across 93 % of the frame, with subject recognition that locks onto people, animals, birds and vehicles and rarely lets go. The X-T50 also has AI subject detection, but its 425-point system is a step behind for fast action and erratic wildlife. The Sony shoots faster bursts (11 fps) and lasts far longer too — about 570 shots per charge versus roughly 305 on the Fujifilm.
Video Both record 10-bit internally. The X-T50 goes up to 6.2K/30p and 4K/60p — more resolution for cropping and reframing. The α6700 tops out at 4K but adds 4K/120p slow motion, S-Log3, S-Cinetone and custom LUT support, plus that flip-out screen. For serious hybrid and vlogging work the Sony is the more complete video tool; for high-resolution clips the Fujifilm has the edge.
Price and value In the Baltic market both bodies start around 1 300 €. You are not choosing on price — you are choosing on what you shoot.
Verdict Buy the Fujifilm X-T50 if you shoot mostly stills, love colour and film looks, want the highest resolution and value a compact, tactile camera. Buy the Sony α6700 if you need the best autofocus for action, wildlife or events, do a lot of video, or shoot outdoors and want weather sealing and longer battery life. Both are excellent — the right answer is simply which of these two photographers you are.
