Xiaomi 17: A Compact Flagship With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
Compact but seriously powerful: the Xiaomi 17 packs a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Leica cameras into a 6.3-inch body. Here is what matters before you buy.
The Xiaomi 17 is the base model of Xiaomi's 2026 flagship series. It was unveiled in February and has been on sale in Baltic shops since March. Unlike the Xiaomi 17T Pro and the Pro models, it skips the rear secondary screen, but it fits almost the same power into a compact frame.
Display and build
The 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED screen runs from 1 to 120 Hz, with a 2656 × 1220 resolution and peak brightness of 3,500 nits – bright enough to stay readable in direct sunlight. Slim 1.18 mm bezels, IP68 protection and a weight of just 191 g make it easy to use one-handed. An ultrasonic fingerprint reader sits under the display.
Processor and memory
At its core is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (3 nm) with Adreno 840 graphics and 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. It is one of the most powerful Android chips of 2026, so the Xiaomi 17 handles gaming, video editing and everyday tasks without effort. Storage uses fast UFS 4.1.
Cameras
Leica tuned the rear camera: three 50 MP sensors – a main shooter (f/1.7, 1/1.31" Light Hunter 950 sensor), a 17 mm ultrawide (102°) and a 60 mm telephoto with 2.6× optical zoom. The front camera is also 50 MP and records 4K video. All lenses share the same resolution, so image quality stays consistent across them.
Battery
The 6,330 mAh silicon-carbon battery is impressive for such a compact phone. It supports 100 W wired, 50 W wireless and 22.5 W reverse charging, so a full charge takes around half an hour.
Versions and price
In the Baltics the Xiaomi 17 comes in two memory tiers – 256 GB and 512 GB. Prices start at roughly €755 for the 256 GB version, undercutting rival flagships such as the Apple iPhone 17 and Samsung Galaxy S26.
Who it is for
